The international Art Biennial takes place since 1993. It was fundamentally reoriented in 2003 on the initiative and under the direction of Hoor Al-Qasimi, President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation. The Foundation is in charge of the Biennial's organization since it was established in 2009. For every edition, a specially appointed curator or curatorial team defines the concept and selects the artists. More than a third of the approx. 100 participants are commissioned to create a new art project. The exhibitions and events are hosted at different venues in the city, including 5 new multifuncional art spaces since 2013. The 12th edition of the Sharjah Biennial will take place in 2015, under the curatorship of Eungie Joo.
Since 2008, annual gathering of artists, art professionals and institutions concerned with the production and dissemination of art in the region and internationally. Seminars, presentations, roundtables and workshops. Organized by the Sharjah Art Foundation, the event is free and open to the public. March Meeting 2014 takes place from 13 - 17 March 2014.
Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial
Established in 2004. Dedicated to classic and contemporary Arabic Calligraphy, as well as calligraphic creations from other countries. Includes experimental artworks in three dimensions and new media. General coordinator: Hisham Al Madhloum, Directorate of Art, Department of Culture & Information. The Biennial also organizes workshops, conferences, lectures, as well as an educational program in Sharjah's eastern and central region.
Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival
Annual international festival organized by the Directorate of Art, Department of Culture and Information. Commited to achieving a balance between the arts based on regulated foundations and aesthetics of the Islamic culture, and contemporary arts that introduce current concepts, innovative techniques and media. Exhibitions, seminars, workshops in at several venues in Sharjah, and the eastern and central region.
Emirates Fine Arts Society Annual Exhibition
Exhibition of members of the association of art professional in the United Arab Emirates, which was established in 1980 with headquarters in Sharjah. The exhibition takes place at the Sharjah Art Museum.
Sharjah International Biennial for Children’s Arts
Organized by the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, General Dept of Children & Girls Centers since 2008. Displays creative expressions of children from the UAE and different countries, selected from a worlwide submission call. Main exhibition, hosted by the Sharjah Art Museum.
