Established by the Fundación para las Artes, a nonprofit entity with the aim of promoting the arts, the Borges Cultural Center was inaugurated in 1995, occupying an area of more than 10.000 m2 within the Galerías Pacífico, a building of the end of the 19th century, declared National Historic Monument in 1989.

The Borges Cultural Center has four auditoriums, several exhibition halls, workshop areas, and spaces for the presentation of a varied program of contemporary culture: exhibitions, events, performances, shows, film screenings, seminars, conferences, educational programs, workshops, etc.

The building's history was closely tied to the arts from the very beginning. In 1896 it hosted the first headquarters of the National Museum of Fine Arts, and in the mid-1940s the magnificent murals by Antonio Berni, Lino Spilimbergo, Juan Carlos Castagnino, Demetrio Urruchúa y Manuel Colmeiro were created under its dome. Today, the Galerías Pacífico are one of the most important and traditional shopping malls of Buenos Aires, with a privileged location at the intersection of the pedestrian street Florida and Córdoba Avenue.
